Douglas “Doug” Irvan Carson, 81, of Fayetteville, formerly of Lebanon, Tenn., passed away on Oct. 4, 2011. Petty Officer 3rd Class Machinist Mate Doug Carson proudly served on the USS Taussig, in the US Navy, during the Korean Conflict. After 20 years of dedicated service, he retired from Lockheed Martin. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to fish and play golf. He was a family man who enjoyed spending time with those he loved.
Mr. Carson is preceded in death by his son Timothy Don Carson.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years Shirley D. Carson; sons Richard Douglas Carson and his wife Debbie of Fayetteville, and Randy D. Carson and his wife Anita of McDonough; daughter Darlene Carson Crawley of Alpharetta; grandchildren, Christopher Carson, Melissa Carson, Joshua Carson, William “Billy” Carson, Candace M. Carson, Scott Eric Morris, Jr. and Christina Lynn Carson; great-grandchildren Aurora Carson and Liberty Carson; brother Raymond Carson of Gallatin, Tenn.
A graveside service was held on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville with Reverend Glenn Stringham officiating.
The family received friends on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Southwest Christian Hospice, 7225 Lester Road, Union City, Georgia 30291.
