Mr. Robert Howell Hunter, Jr., 87, of LaGrange, formerly of Fayetteville, passed away on April 26, 2011.
He was born on September 22, 1923, in Atlanta. Mr. Hunter was a very generous, loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He proudly served in the Army Air Force and was an honored World War II veteran. Following his military career, Mr. Hunter worked on his family poultry farm and then began his career with Delta Air Lines as an aircraft mechanic where he retired after 30 years. Mr. Hunter was an accomplished musician, member of the Atlanta Symphony, Marietta Symphony and the Atlanta Concert Band in which he played the trumpet. Mr. Hunter was also a member of Hillcrest United Methodist Church in LaGrange.
Mr. Hunter was preceded in death by his son Sanders Howell Hunter.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret S. Hunter, daughters Carroll Maria Hunter-Hall of Greenville, GA and Elizabeth Lane (Michael) Harrington of Fayetteville, NC; sons Clifton Harris (Tina) Hunter of Sugar Hill, GA and Robert Lloyd (Cynthia) Hunter of Hogansville, GA; grandchildren Benjamin Sanders (Jeni) Hunter of Winder, GA; Christopher Timms Hunter of Newnan, GA; Margaret Gene (Christopher) Hunter Taylor of Suwanee, GA; Bryan Lloyd Hatchett of Port Charlotte, FL; Sarah Lane Hatchett of Port Charlotte, FL; Andrew Hague of Sarasota, FL; Christina Marie Hunter of Hogansville, GA; great-grandchild Connor Hatchett; and cousin Ann (Lawson) Thigpen of Marietta, GA.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville with Reverend Randy Nix officiating. The burial will follow at Camp Memorial Park in Fayetteville. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 3:00 to 5:00 at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted.
