While there was no announced time frame, Superintendent Jody Barrow at the May 20 meeting of the Fayette County Board of Education said live streaming of school board meetings is in the works.

Barrow said the school system has been working on broadcasting school board meetings live since moving into the refurbished Lafayette Education Center facility earlier this year.

Though not yet live, Barrow said school board meetings have been recorded.

“Ultimately, we do hope to move toward live streaming. That’s where we can archive these meetings,” Barrow said. “We have not published the link yet. Our goal is to have our AVTF (audio-visual, television and film) students at our high schools and middle school come and actually be able to help us, so it will be a learning experience for them.”

That said, there was no time frame announced for the initiation of live streaming for school board meeting.

Some of the state’s school systems have been live streaming for years. One such example is Forsyth County, where school board meetings have been live-streamed for six years.
