Jewell Henson Thomason, 91, of Fayetteville, passed away April 22, 2019.

He was born in Union County, Ga. on May 28, 1927 to the late Norman and Bitha Carder Thomason and was their last surviving child.

He served in the US Navy during World War II. Jewell moved to Atlanta in the 1950’s, where he worked for Dutch Oven Bakery. He then worked for the Ford Motor Company for 32 years until his retirement in 1990. He and Ruth moved to Fayetteville in 2000, where they became active members of Flat Creek Baptist Church.

Jewell always loved spending time with family. He loved to travel and fish and will be remembered for his fantastic tomatoes that he always shared with his neighbors.

Jewell was preceded in death by his first wife of 43 years, Julia Azalee Thomason. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Ruth Tyson Thomason; sons, Karl (Tammy) Thomason of Brooks, GA and Ken (Mechelle) Thomason of Senoia, GA; stepdaughter, Joyce Downes of Woodstock, Ga.; stepsons, Jim Conner of Palm Coast, Fla. and John Conner of Fredericksburg, Va.; grandchildren, Hannah, Seth, Will and Abby; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Rev. Bill Priester officiating. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park, Jonesboro. The family received friends on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 from 5 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Southwest Christian Care, www.swchristiancare.org.
