‘Fire and Ice’ takes top award

The Starr’s Mill High Panther Pride Marching Band’s “Fire and Ice” program earned the top prize at the second annual Northwest Georgia Band Championship.

The band took to the field Oct. 27 at Cass High School in White County, going up against 18 other high school bands from across Georgia, to win the Grand Champion Band award. The Starr’s Mill 2018 program includes the selections Heat, Melted Metal, Cool Ice, and Frostbite, all original music by Scott King and Bert Groover, the band’s director and assistant director, respectively.

In addition to being crowned Grand Champion, the band received first place in Contest Music, Visual, Effect, and Woodwinds, as well as third place in Contest Drum Major.
