Learning good manners and performing community service were both on the menu Saturday, Feb. 12 for several Spring Hill Elementary students. The young women participated in a protocol and etiquette workshop for 4th and 5th grade girls. The workshop was titled “Manners Matter!” The workshop was conducted at the Fayetteville home of the Fayette Youth Protection Homes (FYPH), which received the proceeds from the event.
“Manners Matter!” was an opportunity for the young ladies to be introduced to the world of social etiquette, table manners and personal style. The participants learned communication techniques to work with peers and adults, and had lots of fun role-playing and developing their personal style.
This workshop was the first in an on-going series of workshops to introduce, encourage and empower youth with the knowledge that they can accomplish many wonderful things when they are well prepared and confident. Pam Reid, the Workshop Coordinator remarked, “The most incredible thing is that the children understood that their participation in the event was not only for their own learning and enjoyment, but also for the benefit of our local children who are in need. When that connection is made, we’re doing something right.”
Fayette Youth Protection Homes is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing environment and supportive services to children and youth who have been the victims of abuse, neglect or other tragic family circumstances. The group sponsors a community-based foster care program called Grace for Children which arranges placement of children ages birth through 21 into loving private foster care homes. The group owns and supervises the operation of the Friday-Johnson Home; a residential group home located in Brooks, Georgia, The home provides school-age children protection and healing through a structured and homelike environment, comprehensive services, and most importantly, lots of hugs.
