The Fayette County Public Library and the Friends of the Fayette County Public Library invite the public to attend the 13th Annual Blended Heritage Celebration, a free evening of performing arts at the Fayette County Public Library on Friday, February 25 at 6:30 p.m. As always, a very special evening of music, poetry, dance, and food is planned. The Blended Heritage Celebration is open to all, free of charge.
The program features talent from Fayette County and from the greater metro Atlanta area, inspired by the theme “Deep Roots and Spreading Branches.” This year, a very special guest graces the Blended Heritage stage: Francine Reed, Atlanta’s powerhouse blues and jazz singer, who has toured and recorded with Lyle Lovett, Delbert McClinton and Willie Nelson. A native of Chicago, Reed moved to Atlanta in the 1990s and has been electrifying local audiences with her powerful stage presence ever since.
Returning Blended Heritage favorites include: poet and novelist Collin Kelley, reciting his theme poem, custom-written for the occasion; novelist Ferrol Sams, sharing one or two of his favorite classic poems; and Eugenia Liu, playing beautiful music on the Chinese zither. Other performers from years gone by are expected to make appearances, including Reed Dorty, with his evocative, dramatic interpretations of Langston Hughes poetry, and David Hobson, playing traditional songs on the dulcimer. Vocalist Shaundra Davis Mathieu will sing.
Presented annually since 1999, the Blended Heritage Celebration at the Fayette County Public Library has become a February tradition in Fayette County. Take the opportunity to branch out and enjoy a cultural night out with friends and neighbors. Complimentary refreshments will be served after the performance, catered by Robert Clark Catering Service.
The Fayette County Public Library is located behind the Fayette County administrative complex in downtown Fayetteville, at the southwest corner of Georgia Highways 85 and 54. For additional information, please contact the library at 770-461-8841.
