Mr. Robert “Bob” John Bales, 85, of Fayetteville, passed away on February 11, 2011.

Mr. Bales was a WWII survivor of the Normandy invasion and went ashore at Omaha Beach. He later served under General G.S. Patton, Jr. during the occupation of Berlin. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

Mr. Bales is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard J. Bales and Frances Case Bales; son Trek M. Bales; brothers, Leonard F. Bales, John K. Bales, and Donald J. Bales.

He is survived by daughter Roanna Bales of Atlanta; brothers and sisters, Ann Bales Reese, Marion Bales Henry, Willard Bales, Stanley Bales, Frances Bales Alderson, and Matthew Bales.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Rev. Lendell Ainsworth officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Sacred Journey Hospice, 138 Peach Dr., McDonough, GA 30253.
