Work on the intersection at Veterans Parkway, Ga. Highway 92 North and Westbridge Road in north Fayette County is ongoing and is expected to by completed in July. The installation of a two-way stop is being reviewed by the Ga. Department of Transportation (DOT), with local residents hoping the intersection will be outfitted with a traffic signal.

Fayette County Public Works Director Phil Mallon said the project for the new intersection at Veterans Parkway and Hwy. 92 North will include realigning Westbridge Road. Crews will install a two-way stop at the new intersection and provide turn lanes along Hwy. 92 North.
Mallon said the project is expected to be completed in July.
Mallon said recent conversations with area homeowners’ associations resulted in residents saying a two-way stop was unacceptable. He said subsequent conversations with DOT resulted in the department being willing to look at current traffic data, with the potential that a traffic signal might be installed instead. Mallon said he is waiting to hear from DOT on the issue.
The new intersection was originally slated for a roundabout, but significant issues with adjacent property and with utilities in the area resulted in DOT opting for a two-way stop, Mallon said.
Veterans Parkway, currently closed north of Lee’s Mill Road, is completed nearly all the way to Hwy. 92 North.
Given that Veterans Parkway begins at Ga. Highway 54 West in Fayetteville, the new intersection will provide a traffic alternative for those travelling north from the city’s west side.
The Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank (GTIB) in August 2017 awarded a $300,000 grant for work on the intersection. The grant award was approved by the Fayette County Commission on Aug. 24.
Commissioners on July 27 authorized the acquisition of right-of-way and easement needed to construct the intersection at Ga. Highway 92 North, Veterans Parkway and Westbridge Road.
Commissioners on May 25 unanimously approved a $894,881 bid by E.R. Snell to construct the intersection. The $300,000 grant award will be used to offset the cost of the project.
