Louis Peter Alaimo, 91, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 25, 2017 at Somerby Senior Living in Peachtree City, Ga.

Lou is survived by his wife of 65 years Agatha, his daughter Tina (Joe) Loponte, and his sons Sal (Wendy), Anthony (Laurie), Tom (Pam), Vinny (Sharelle), Frank (JoAnn) and Louis (Melissa).  Lou is also survived by his 18 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Lou was born in Manhattan to Salvatore and Concettina, both immigrants from Sicily.  Lou joined the Army in 1944 and served in World War II in the Pacific Theater.  After the war, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Fordham University.  Lou married Agatha Trimarchi in 1952 in New York City. Lou and Agatha moved to NJ in 1956 where they raised their seven children.  Lou was very proud of the fact that all seven children graduated from college.

Lou had a distinguished career as an entrepreneur.  He owned and managed Dalt International, Inc. which imported candy and food for more than 50 years.  Some of the brands that Lou pioneered in the US included Barilla pasta, Halls Mentho-lyptus and Finlandia Vodka.  Lou was recognized by many countries for promoting international trade, and he was awarded the Knight’s Cross by the Finnish government.  Lou was an officer in the U.S. Army reserve and retired a Lieutenant Colonel after 30 years of service.  Lou was a long-time member of the Rotary Club and was very active in the Catholic Church.

Lou and Agatha moved to Highland Beach, Florida in 1989 where they lived for 25 years.  In 2014 they moved to Peachtree City to be closer to family.  There will be a celebration of life at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home at 135 Senoia Road, Peachtree City, Ga.  There will be a funeral mass in N.J. sometime in February.
