Patricia Jane “Patty” Lyden (née Hale), loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away December 7, 2017 in Griffin, Ga.
She is preceded in death by her parents Maynard George Hale and Pollyanna Pozniko Hale.
Patricia is survived by her son, Matthew Lyden; grandson, Andrew Batko-Lyden; brother, Arthur Hale and his wife, Frances; stepmother, Constance Moehring; Irish terrier, Dugan; former spouse and father of Matthew, John Martin Lyden III, as well as many beloved friends.
She was born August 8, 1952 in Radford, Va., and grew up in Blacksburg, Va., where her parents were both professors at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She graduated from Blacksburg High School with the Class of 1970, and graduated cum laude from Kent State University in Ohio with a BA in psychology in 1974. She married John Lyden on August 3, 1974, and worked as an accountant before becoming a full-time homemaker and mother to Matthew, in the Vinton suburb of Roanoke, Va.
Patty first moved to Peachtree City, Ga. in 2002, and quickly became a vibrant member of the community. She was active in the Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Congregation and volunteered there weekly. She was also very involved with the New Neighbors club and two book clubs, which she cherished. Her friends and family described her as fiercely strong, independent, and courageous. In short, she was uniquely “Patty.”
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 12 p.m. at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, Peachtree City, with Rev. Fritz Wiese officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. prior to the service. There will be a brief reception to follow.
