Thomas Lee Sawyer, 70, of Fayetteville

Thomas Lee Sawyer, 70, of Fayetteville, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2017.

He was born in Albany, Ga. on June 28, 1947 to the late Ernest Lee and Melba Hasty Sawyer.  He grew up in Sylvester, Ga. and graduated from Worth County High School.  He then went on to graduate from Auburn University.  Thomas was active for many years in the Kiwanis International Club and a member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro.

Thomas is survived by his son, Matt (Holly) Sawyer; grandchildren, Lily and Caroline Sawyer; sister, Marilyn Pettit; and former wife and friend, Gail Hood Sawyer.

A funeral service was held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, with Pastor Irvin Pearre officiating.  The family received friends from 3 – 4 p.m. on Sunday prior to the service at the church. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Hillcrest Cemetery 709 S. Isabella Street, Sylvester, Ga.
