Grace Burke Wood, 97, passed away on March 12, 2017, at Southland Health and Rehab in Peachtree City, Ga.
She was born on November 27, 1919 in Millen, Ga. to the late Mandon Joseph Burke and Ola Mae Norris Burke. Grace grew up in Millen and attended Jenkins County Schools. After high school she went on to study to be a registered dental hygienist. She retired at age 62 to be a caretaker for her husband, John Babson Glisson, whom passed away two years later. Grace then went on to be caretaker for many of her family members. That was her true gift, to care for others.
Grace was preceded in death by seven brothers, John, Brant, Oliver, Louis, Lawrence, Barney, and Reeves Burke and one sister, Julia Clayton. She married William Charles Wood in 1991, which preceded her in death. Grace is survived by her daughter Helen Jan Evans, of Peachtree City, Ga. and her 4 beloved dogs Zena, Zoe, Tiffany, and Tess.
A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date at Green Fork Baptist Church, Millen, Ga. Grace will be laid to rest beside her husband John Babson Glisson. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to Henry County Humane Society, 46 Work Camp Rd., McDonough, Ga., 30253.
A special thank you to Southland Health and Rehab for their kindness and compassion shown to Grace, and her daughter Jan, and to friends that have been supportive and encouraging.
“Though nothing can bring back the hour of splendor in the grass, glory in the flower, we will grieve not: rather find strength in what remains behind.” “Splendor in the Grass-1961” “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” Corinthians 4 17-18
