Julian Clayton “Clay” Brannon, a resident of Peachtree City, Ga. and formerly of Headland, Ala., died early Tuesday morning, August 23, 2016, in the Piedmont Fayette Hospital, Fayetteville, Ga.

A gathering of family and friends was held Thursday in Peachtree City, Ga. at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home from 4-6 p.m. EST. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. CST Friday, August 26, 2016, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel, Headland, Ala., with Reverend Tim McCraney officiating. Burial followed in the Headland Methodist Cemetery. The family received friends from 1:30 until 3 p.m. CST Friday at the mortuary in Headland.

Clay Brannon was born on April 17, 1970 in the Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, Atlanta, Ga. He attended school in the Peachtree City/Fayette County School Systems and moved to Headland where he was a 1988 graduate of Headland High School. An avid Auburn fan, Clay went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Auburn University and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He enjoyed spending every minute possible with his four children, keeping up with friends and family, acting as the family’s self-appointed historian, and working on the farm in Headland with his beloved grandfather, “D-Daddy”.

Clay was a member of the Auburn United Methodist Church. Clay was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mary and Jim Ward, and J.C. Womack, and Julian Adair Brannon, an aunt, Diane Sharpless, two cousins, Robert Womack, Frank Lloyd, Jr., and several special great aunts and uncles.

Surviving relatives include his four children, Samuel Gregory Brannon, Thomas Rosier Brannon, Carson Mayhan Brannon, and Cora Woods Brannon, all of Cartersville, Ga.; his mother, Sandra Brannon-Harp, Woodbury, Ga.; his father, Sam Vann Brannon (Linda), Headland, Ala.; two sisters, Katie Brannon, LaGrange, Ga.; Libba Brannon Harris (Chris), Auburn, Ala.; three brothers, Vann Brannon (Deborah), LaGrange, Ga.; Zack Brannon (Gina), Helena, Ala.; Lewis Brannon (Kata), San Diego, Calif.; two nieces, Casey Brannon Huckestein (Brian), Helena, Ala.; Mary Frances Brannon Addison (Brent), LaGrange, Ga.; four nephews, Zeke Brannon (Brooklyn), Helena, Ala.; Will Brannon, Auburn, Ala.; Julian Silvers and Alex Morgan, LaGrange, Ga.; his ninety-six year old grandmother, Grace Vann Brannon, Headland; a host of loving aunts, uncles, great-aunts, a great-uncle, cousins, great-nieces, fraternity brothers, and friends.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Vann, Zack, and Lewis Brannon, Scott Murchison, Kylie Elmore, Beau Dudley, Scottie Ellison, Barkley Kirkland, and Scott Womack.

Clay’s immediate family would like to express their thanks to the Joel H. Cowan, Sr. family of Peachtree City, for opening their hearts and home, where Clay resided and worked this year. He loved them very much.
