“Is It True What They Say About Dixie? Southern History Through Song” is the title of a program by the Newnan Coweta Historical Society scheduled for Thursday, May 19, at 7:30 p.m. at McRitchie-Hollis Museum, 74 Jackson Street in Newnan.

No region of the United States has richer musical traditions or a more fascinating history than does the South. Dr. Steve Goodman, professor in the University of West Georgia’s History Department, provides a presentation that will bring together that music and history in a discussion of the ways in which the South has been represented in song over the past 175 years.

Dr. Goodson will play a generous sampling of vintage and modern recordings to illustrate the major Southern themes, events, and characters that have preoccupied songwriters and performers since the early nineteenth century.

For reservations, phone 770-683-1347.
