Joseph A. Cera, Jr. died on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at his home in Peachtree City with his wife, daughter and several family members by his side.
He was born in Niles, Ohio, the son of Joseph Anthony and Helen Ruby Cera. He was a graduate of St. Stephens School (1941) and Niles McKinley High School (1945). Joe attained an Eagle Scout (B.S.A.) rank in 1942. He obtained an undergraduate degree from Adelbert College, Western Reserve University in 1947. He was a musician in high school and college (band and orchestra) and a professional musician 1943-1947.
Joe was a faculty officer (academic) and orchestra director at Riverside Military Academy, Gainesville, Ga. (1947-1951). He worked with Delta Airlines, Atlanta (1951-1983) in various positions and cities culminating, at his retirement, as director-computer services. He then worked for MARTA (Atlanta) as director of Information Services (1986-1989). Joe was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sons Joseph Laurence Cera (1991) and Gene Luis Cera (2012); sister Jane A. Cera (2012); brother James E. Cera (2012) and sister Mary Ellen Cera Readman (2015).
Joe is survived by his wife, Aurea C. (Nena) Cera; daughter Teresa (Terry) Cera Braswell; six grandchildren Joe Franklin; Nicci Cera Taylor; Natalie Cera Tupper, Ashley Braswell Pace; Sidney Braswell V; Kristin Cera; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial mass was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City. A reception followed in Loreto Hall at the church immediately after the service.
