Here is the latest weekly report from state Rep. John Yates (R-Griffin):

“The nation is properly grieving for the loss of Nancy Reagan, a very fine lady who did so much for our country by helping Ronald Reagan be such an effective president. In the history of our great country there were only five or so presidents who stood out as great and he was one of them. It was his and our good luck that he was elected at one of our times of greatest needs. Although I never had an opportunity to meet him, I was working for Ford Motor Company as depot manager of the Los Angeles Depot when he was governor of California.  He governed in an outstanding way.

“Much time will be taken today in the House debating S.B. 308 which takes up ‘Positive Alternatives for Pregnancy and Parenting Grant Program.’

“There were several Senate bills covering the needs of general government passed by the House.

“Even though our main job is attending session and committee meetings, other things are going on that we as representatives are expected to attend. For example, I will attend Founder’s Day March 19 at Gordon College. This is because I have been a member of the Gordon College Foundation for many years.

“I also attend many meetings in support of Clayton State University, Georgia Tech, University of Georgia and Georgia Southern University.  In addition I attend meetings at our Technical Colleges such as Southern Crescent Tech.  I am pleased to do this since I could not have been a captain of field artillery in the Army in World War II nor a manager at Ford Motor Company or a member of the legislature without an outstanding education.  I fully support education of all types.

“I can be reached in my office at Room 217 State Capitol each day at 404-656-5126 and I can also be reached before 8 p.m. at my home at 770-227-1474. I can also be reached by email at John.Yates@house.ga.gov.”
