Regional math winners announced

Math teams from Sandy Creek High and Starr’s Mill High held on to their championship status from last year, finishing first once again in their divisions at the 2016 Griffin RESA Regional High School Math Contest.

Sandy Creek High took first place in Division II (medium schools). Whitewater High came in second in the same division.

Starr’s Mill High secured a first-place win in Division III (larger schools). McIntosh High placed second in the same division.

Fayette math students swept the Individual Overall category with Jihoen Smith of McIntosh taking first place, Rickey Macke of Starr’s Mill High in second place, and Joshua Tysor of Starr’s Mill High finishing in third place.

The regional competition includes schools from Butts, Fayette, Griffin-Spalding, Henry, Lamar, Newton, Pike, and Thomaston-Upson county school systems. The competition consists of a multiple-choice test and a ciphering round.
