Local teams will battle this weekend in the state volleyball quarterfinals in their respective classifications after wins Tuesday in the second round of the playoffs.
East Coweta took three of four games from North Gwinnett in AAAAAA, while Northgate swept three games from Winder-Barrow in AAAAA.
Allatoona swept McIntosh in another AAAAA match. In AAAA, Sandy Creek lost three straight to Marist and Whitewater lost three of four against St. Pius X.
Landmark won three in a row from Hebron in the A bracket.
The final eight teams in AAAAAA and AAAAA will be seeded. There are six teams left in the A bracket, which will be seeded with the top two seeds getting a bye to the semifinals.
Quarterfinal matches are Oct. 24 and semifinals are Oct. 28. The higher-seeded team will host each of those rounds.
Championship matches are Oct. 31. The AAAAAA and AAAAA finals will be at Marietta High School, and the A finals will be at Holy Innocents’.
