Providence United Methodist Church welcomes the community to worship on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 9:30 and 11 a.m. when it celebrates 20 years of mission and ministry.

Providence was started by eight families, including founding pastor, Dr. Jim Ellison, and current members C.J. and Julia Chang, and Greg Rogers, and held its first worship service at Braelinn Elementary School on Sept. 15, 1995. The church purchased 105 acres on Bernhard Road in 1997, and moved into the main building in 1998, with a children’s ministry building  added in 2007. Providence has had only three pastors in 20 years, with the Rev. Warren Huddleston as senior pastor 2007-2013.

Dr. Diane Parrish, who has led the church since 2013, says, “What started as a  dream, soon became the vision of what God intended for us: we are here to do life and mission with our community. As a neighborhood church, we are here to experience God’s love, grow into His likeness and serve in the Name of Jesus. We truly are here to walk alongside our neighbors and on the mission fields, helping folks in their times of need and celebrating with them in their times of joy.”

Over the past 20 years Providence members of all ages have been in mission locally, in the United States, Guatemala, Honduras, the Dominican Republic, Belize and Brazil. Providence offers ministries and Bible studies for all age groups and welcomes everyone from seasoned Christians to those seeking to know more about Jesus.

Providence is at 592 Bernhard Rd. in southern Fayette County between Redwine Road and Ga. Highway 85. Visit www.provumc.com for more info or call 770-719-8800.
