The Business Women of Fayette and Coweta are hosting a “Hoedown for Champions” that will benefit Kingdom Champions Academy, a Christian school serving orphans and other impoverished children in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya.
The hoedown is scheduled for Thursday, March 26, from 6 to 8:30 p.m and will feature barbecue, country line dancing and a cake auction. “Hoedown for Champions” benefits TEAM Alliance, which was founded by Peachtree
City retired Pastor Jane White-Stevens to provide support for Kingdom Champions Academy.
The goal is to give children education, a daily meal, hope and a future. All of the proceeds from the hoedown will go to Kingdom Champions Academy.
“This school took kids who weren’t even getting enough food to eat, and now they get two meals a day,” White-Stevens said. “I can see the hope in their faces. I know this works. I saw them three years ago, and then last year. There’s a difference. There’s confidence. Their eyes sparkle. They look healthy. They have energy.”
Kingdom Champions Academy is a Christian school that follows Kenyan government curriculum standards. White-Stevens said the students study English and Swahili. Some students may speak a different language at home. Many of them share books.
“If there’s not enough money to feed the children at the school, the people who run the school go without food at home,” White-Stevens said.
Hoedown Chair Sheila Rambeck said the cause is a worthy one. “If we don’t help them, who will? I’m happy to take care of kids overseas. We want to do things here in the county, but we also live in the world. They need a good education and a good Christian background.”
All adults are invited to attend the hoedown. “Women, bring your husbands and boyfriends,” Rambeck said. “The more the merrier.”
