Francis R. Harman of Peachtree City, Ga., passed away on Dec. 22, 2014 at the age of 89 after a long illness. Francis was born on July 20, 1925 on a farm north of Hays, Kan., to William and Eva (Balls) Harman. His parents preceded him in death.
Francis was married to Eudora R. (Cordell) on Aug. 29, 1948. They were married for 67 happy years. Francis attended school in Hays, Kan., graduating from Fort Hays University with a B.S. in business Administration in 1949. Francis was employed by Western Auto for 34 years in Kansas City, Kan., Wichita, Kan., and Meridian, Miss.
Francis was a decorated veteran of the United States Army during WWII serving as an Army Ranger. His service included landing on the beaches of Normandy and continued with behind the front activities concluding with his participation in the release of prisoners at the Buchen Wald Germany concentration camp.
Francis was active in church and volunteer work. He was President and an active member of the Western Auto Retirees Club, Chairman of Board for Volunteers Services at Humana Hospital, Overland Park, Kan., and was active in the Fayette Community Hospital Auxiliary. He also enjoyed reading, spending time with his family, and gardening.
Francis is survived by his wife Eudora, two children: Gregory Harman (Karen) of Wichita, Kansas, and Paula Cocos (Richard) of Fayetteville, Ga. four grandchildren: Blakely Harman Smith (Jeremy), Cara Cocos Sugrue (Dennis), Becky Cocos Shaver (Chris) and John Cocos (Sarah), and 3 great grandchildren: Paige Ann Shaver, Emery Scott Shaver, and Wade Michael Cocos, a sister, Henrietta Jacobs, St. Petersburg, Fla. He is preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.
Memorial services will be at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Fayetteville, Ga. On Jan. 3, 2015 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church 257 Hwy 314, Fayetteville, Ga. 30214.
