Walter Frederick Mashburn, known to all as Walt, was born in Pickens County, Georgia, June 20, 1920. He passed away at the age of 94 on December 19, 2014.
Walt served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Following his military service, he resumed his career with Ford Motor Company, which began in 1940, at the Atlanta Assembly Plant where he retired in 1978, ending a distinguished management career. Walt had been a resident of Peachtree City since 1968. He was a founding member of First Baptist Church of Peachtree City and a Kiwanian. He was an astute football and baseball fan, but golf was his passion. He was a charter member of Canongate Golf Club.
Walt was preceded in death in 2002 by his wife of 59 years, Lee Reynolds Mashburn. He is survived by their four children Jim Mashburn and his wife, Kim; Carolyn White and her husband, Bill; Connie Arnold and her husband, Mike; and Donna Mashburn; grand-daughters, Jamie Wratchford and Lisa Benetto; five great grandchildren; and his beloved Ada Hewell.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Peachtree City, with Rev. Steve Bingham officiating. Burial followed at Westminster Memorial Gardens in Peachtree City. The family received friends Monday, December 22, 2014, from 3 – 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
