Children’s Restoration Network (CRN) is hosting a wrap party to personalize around 18,000 toys, gifts and clothing for over 2,700 homeless children Dec. 19-22 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The event’s purpose is to make Christmas joyful and memorable for the homeless children residing in 134 shelters and group homes in 21 metro Atlanta counties, including the Fayette Youth Protection Home.

“It is important that we let these kids know they are not forgotten, and that our community cares about their wellbeing,” Jim Cox.

According to CRN, holidays are always tough on homeless kids.

“Christmas was not just another day of the year, it was the worst day of the year,” said Billy C., a former group home resident.

CRN is currently collecting new toys, gifts and clothing donations for the homeless children in metro atlanta through Dec. 19.

Items needed include new toys and clothing (including winter-wear), gifts, games, books, board games, shoes, cosmetics, ethnic dolls, cds, mp3 players, alarm clocks, skateboards, bikes, watches, sports equipment an clothing, jewelry, diaries, tennis shoes, Ugg-like boots and many other items.

Gift cards from Target, Old Navy, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, McDonalds and others are also needed and appreciated.

Many of the older kids, ages 13 to 18, prefer clothing and shoes over anything else. Sizes especially needed are large to XXXL. Shoe sizes from adult 8 to 13, both boys and girls.

The Roswell-based Children’s Restoration Network works with 134 shelters and group homes in 21 metro Atlanta counties.

Volunteers can buy something that a child would like and drop it off at any metro Atlanta Schoolbox Store, CRN office or bring it to the wrap party.

“This is a great opportunity to share in the spirit of Christmas,” Cox says. “This is a wonderful way for a family, business, church, school or club to give back to their community, while fellowshipping with family and friends.”

The wrapping party is at 610 Holcomb Bridge Rd. at the Roswell Town Center in Roswell, Ga., on the lower level of the Commerce Parkway entrance.
