Philip Andrew Ellis was ordained to the ministry at The Cathedral of Christ the King in Sharpsburg on Sunday, Nov. 16.

Born in the U.K. and fluent in English, French and German , Ellis attended Oxford and Leicester Universities, graduating with dual master’s degrees and a PhD. He developed a career initially working for local and then central government in the UK, ultimately working for Margaret Thatcher’s Cabinet as a special advisor on European policy and environmental law.

Later, he worked in several countries including major cities in Europe, Asia and Australia. After 1994, he commenced Holy Orders, spending 18 months at Anglican Formation School. During this time he was ordained as a curate in the Church of England, but did not compete his studies to the priesthood.

In 1999 he became a U.S. resident and met, became engaged to and later married his wife Lei in Atlanta. The couple moved to Newnan in 2005.

In 2005, Ellis started attending The Charismatic Episcopal Church (CEC) at Christ the King.

In 2006 he became a Licensed Liturgical Minister (LLM) of the Mid-South and, in 2012, commenced Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) studying under the Rev. Fr. James Taylor and the Rev. Kim Holman, at Piedmont Fayette Hospital where he now works as a part time chaplain as well as a counselor for Rachel’s Gift — a local charity.

In 2013 Ellis completed his master of divinity (M.Div.) at Westminster Theological Seminary and, in 2014, was ordained to the diaconate of the Mid-South Diocese of the CEC.

Ellis now lives in Tyrone with his wife, Lei. They have one son, Bing Rupert Ellis.
