0James “Jim” Alvin Varney, 75, of Peachtree City died peacefully in his sleep on May 16, 2014.
Jim was born to the late Carl and Annabelle Varney in Detroit, Mich. on January 24, 1939. After attending the University of Detroit for two years, he served in the US Navy for six years, including time on a nuclear submarine. Jim married Barbara Brassard Varney in 1967.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years and children: Linda Ellis of Peachtree City; David Varney of Newnan; Laura Truelove of Buford; and Michael Varney of Peachtree City. He is also survived by six grandchildren.
Visitation and services were held Tuesday, May 20 at Providence United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Diabetes Research Institute Foundation at www.diabetesresearch.org/donate-now in his honor.
