Soccer fans at three Fayette schools have gotten chance this year to cheer their squads in the GHSA state semifinals in two classifications, and one bracket still has a chance to see an all-Fayette final.

The top three girls teams from Region 4-AAAAA (Starr’s Mill, Northgate and McIntosh) have earned semifinal spots, and they take the field this week to see who will play this weekend for the state championship.

The Lady Panthers picked up a 5-0 road win Saturday over Allatoona. Rachel Catlett scored the only goal of the first half, but the Lady Panthers got three goals in a two-minute span early in the second half, two by Molly Moroney and one by Riley Clark. Leslie Logan scored the team’s final goal. The team travels to Marietta Wednesday to face Pope.

McIntosh prevailed 1-0 Saturday over Northview in the quarterfinals and will play Wednesday at Northgate in the other AAAAA semifinal match. The Starr’s Mill-Pope winner will host the championship.

Our Lady of Mercy lost 2-1 Friday to Savannah Country Day as Nahyo Jilagel scored the Lady Bobcats’ lone goal.

In boys action, the McIntosh Chiefs downed Gainesville 6-1 Friday night to earn their AAAAA semifinal spot Tuesday night at Greenbrier, the top team from Region 2-AAAAA who defeated Heritage-Conyers 1-0 in the quarterfinals. If the Chiefs win, they will host either Clarke Central or Houston County in this weekend’s championship.

Our Lady of Mercy reached the A semifinals after a 3-2 win over Savannah Country Day. Nick Wells scored two goals and Mihn Bui added one. The Bobcats are scheduled to host Paideia Tuesday, with the winner hosting either Brookstone or Atlanta International this weekend for the state crown.
