Mary Elizabeth Pound, age 101, Fayetteville, went to be with the Lord on April 15, 2010.
Originally from Savannah, GA, Elizabeth has resided with her sister, Emmie Pound, in Fayetteville for the past seven years.
As a graduate of Teacher’s College in Athens, now known as The University of Georgia, Elizabeth enjoyed many different careers in her life. She first taught at Bethesda Boys Orphan Home. Later, she managed the State 4-H Camp at Tybee Island. Elizabeth finished her career with Armstrong State College. She was a lifelong member of Bull Street Baptist Church in Savannah. After she retired she enjoyed caring for family and friends, working with her flowers and loving her pets.
She is survived by her sister, Emmie; niece, Julie Boatwright; nephews, Guy F. Johnson, Joseph F. Pound, Robert E. Pound and many great, great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 16, 2010 at 6:00 PM at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville. Reverend Glenn Stringham will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. A graveside service will be on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park in Savannah, GA.
