Douglas E. Hefty, 80, of Peachtree City, formerly of Marietta, died Thursday, April 8, 2010.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 13, at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Chapel, Marietta, with Reverend Mark Barbour officiating. Interment will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery, Marietta.

Born in St. John’s, Michigan, Mr. Hefty lived in Marietta for 38 years prior to moving to Peachtree City 6 years ago. He worked for Cobb County Government as a traffic engineer until he retired in 1996. He was a member of Daylight Masonic Lodge #742 F&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies of Atlanta, YAARB Temple, Atlanta, and Kennesaw United Methodist Church.

Mr. Hefty is survived by Betty Hefty, his wife of 54 years; one daughter, Elizabeth “Liz” Hefty Taylor and husband, Greg, of Brooks, GA; two sisters, Kay Talkington of Phoenix, AZ, and Denise Parker of Napoleon, OH; one grandson, Jesse Hansel Taylor, III; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Georgia DeMolay, 6905 Beachwood Dr, Acworth, GA 30102.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Monday, at Mayes Ward-Dobbins & Crematory, Marietta.
