Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb has ten 17-year-olds behind bars in the Fayette County Jail. Four of those, along with two 16-year-olds housed in the Clayton County Juvenile Detention Center, are Fayette County residents charged with felony offenses such as armed robbery, murder, burglary and entering auto. Six are students attending high schools in Fayette and Coweta counties.

Seventeen-year-old Fayette County High School student Mustafa Madhi was arrested by Fayetteville police officers March 25 on charges of malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault in the stabbing death of his uncle, Atlanta resident David John Quincy, III, according to Fayetteville Det. Mike Whitlow.

Officers were called to the Sylvan Loop residence about a domestic dispute and found Quincy bleeding from several stab wounds. The Atlanta man had travelled to Fayetteville to offer Madhi a place to live in his home in Atlanta. Quincy was transported to Atlanta Medical Center where he died.

Ross A. Smith, 17, of Tarragon Drive, was charged March 27 with eight counts of burglary, six counts of entering auto and one count of second degree criminal damage to property, Babb said.

Also arrested and charged with seven counts of burglary and six counts of entering auto was a 16-year-old male, said Babb.

Both Smith and the 16-year-old attend Heritage Christian School in east Coweta County.

Babb said over the course of several months starting in December 2013 sheriff’s detectives were investigating several entering auto cases and burglaries that were occurring in the Whitewater, Highgrove and Timberlake subdivisions near Redwine Road.

Traveling either on foot or on a golf cart to avoid security gates, Smith and the juvenile entered unlocked cars and home garages to steal items like money, firearms and personal electronics, Babb said.

Three Fayette County High School students were arrested March 21 on armed robbery charges stemming from a supposed Craigslist purchase.

Malik Miles, 17, of Pineview Terrace, was charged with two counts of armed robbery and Joshua Wright, 17, of Stanley Oaks Place, was charged with two counts of armed robbery-party to a crime. A 16-year-old juvenile, of Fayetteville, was also charged with two counts of armed robbery.

Sheriff’s deputies on March 19 responded to a robbery call in the area of Brandon Mill Circle and New Hope Road. Upon arrival, deputies learned that the victims had been robbed after answering a Craigslist ad selling an iPhone.

When the victims arrived at the arranged meeting spot, they were met by two males who demanded seeing the money, Babb said. Once the victim displayed the cash, both of the perpetrators produced handguns. After the money was stolen, they took the second victim’s wallet and walked away, said Babb.
