Former first lady addresses students

Former first lady Barbara Bush made an appearance at Cleveland Elementary on January 14 to read to fifth graders at the school and take their questions.
The appearance was made via videoconference as part of the Reading Discovery Distance Learning Program at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum. 

She read excerpts from the book “Liberty” by award-winning author Lynn Curlee. The Statue of Liberty is the focus of the book, which reveals that the statue was originally the idea of a Frenchman and describes the challenges and successes involved in creating the United States’ most recognizable monument.

Cleveland was one of 19 chosen to ask a question of Mrs. Bush. Cleveland’s question was “What do you think is the most important life skill of being First Lady?”
Schools from 13 different states, as well as the countries of Canada and France, participated in the program. Cleveland was the only school in Georgia that was part of the videoconference.
This videoconference is just one of several that will take place this year at varying schools and grade levels around the county.
