Tiziana Raita Folchitto was born July 31, 1948 in Rome, Italy, to Liliana and Umberto.
As a little girl she was a tomboy, but grew up to be a beautiful and gracious young woman. She was an extraordinary student, winning numerous scholarships and awards on a national and European level. She graduated high school top of her class and was recruited right away by Pan American Airways as a reservation agent. Her dream was to work for an American icon like Pan Am and travel to the United States where she felt at home since her very first visit.
She married Gianfranco when she was 23 and he has been her loving companion and soul mate through her last days. Her two children Alessandro and Cristiana both were raised to be loving, caring and successful individuals that were devoted to her. She was greatly accomplished in her line of work, earning the position of station manager in Rome, Italy and the legal representative of Italy for Delta Airlines. She received recognition and awards from the Italian and US governments, including FBI and Secret Service for her contributions in aviation security and safety, which included setting up guidelines for airline security in Italy and the European Union.
She was the first woman to be nominated President of the Airline Overseeing Committee and contributed greatly to troops deployed during Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. She survived two terrorist attacks on US carriers during her years at the airport and learned to fight for justice and freedom. She was loved and respected by her personnel and everyone that worked with and for her. She was a leader with a high work ethic and respect. She traveled all over the world, was extremely well read, educated and brilliant. She retired from Delta and decided to start a new chapter with her family moving to the United States. She opened an authentic Italian Family Restaurant that she built from scratch; she was and always will be the heart and core.
She was an extraordinary daughter to her parents that she lost way too soon, and had missed every single day. A loving caring wife and the most amazing, selfless, devoted and nurturing mother to her children.
A funeral service was held Monday, September 9, 2013 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Peachtree City. Deacon Tony Coumo officiated. The burial followed at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City.
