• An area student graduated from Mercer University’s School of Medicine during the school’s commencement in Macon last month. Mercer President William D. Underwood conferred the degree.

• Fayetteville’s Kyle Dearing has been named to the Dean’s List by Freed-Hardeman University for academic achievement during the 2013 spring semester.Inclusion on the Dean’s List requires maintaining a minimum grade-point average of 3.40 for the semester and full-time status.
• Two residents have been named to the President’s List at Clemson University for the spring 2013 semester.

• Reinhardt University announced that Fayetteville’s James Nolin and Fayetteville’s Amanda Vice have been named to the Dean’s List for spring semester 2013.
A Reinhardt Dean’s List student must maintain a 3.5 grade-point average based on successful completion of a minimum of 12 semester credits with no grade less than a B.
• Sreedevi Rajan Fitzwater of Peachtree City was recently named to the LaGrange College spring semester Dean’s List.
To be eligible for this honor, students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.6 while taking a minimum course load of 12 hours.

• Miquela Rivers, of Fayetteville,a senior majoring in Musical Theater, is among more than 1,500 students who made the Dean’s List at Coastal Carolina University for the Spring 2013 semester.
To qualify for the Dean’s List, freshmen must earn a 3.25 grade point average, and upperclassmen must earn a 3.5 grade point average. All students must be enrolled full time.
• Christopher Gleason of Fayetteville received the Master of Theology from Princeton Theological Seminary at the school’s 201st Commencement Exercises May 18. The Master of Theology is an advanced degree beyond the basic professional degree in ministry. The Seminary awarded a total of 164 degrees at the Commencement Exercises. Gleason will enter the Ph.D. program at the University of Tennessee in the fall.
• Air Force Airman Andrea L. Jones graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Jones is the daughter of Brenda Jones of Hedgerow Trail in Fayetteville.
• William Bates of Fayetteville was among 173 undergraduates named to the Bryan College Dean’s List for the spring 2013 semester.
Students earn Dean’s List recognition by recording a grade average in the top 25 percent of grades by students in the traditional undergraduate program for that semester.
• Several local residents were among 365 students from Georgia Southwestern State University who were recognized for earning a spot on the Spring 2013 Academic Achievement List.

To be eligible for the Academic Achievement List, a student must previously earn at least 15 credit hours at GSW, be enrolled in 3 to 14 hours of courses, and earn a 3.5 or higher GPA.
• The following entering freshmen at Columbus State University have been selected to receive a CSU Honors Program scholarship for 2013-2014:
Aliya James, a graduate of Fayette County High School plans to major in Accounting at Columbus State.
Taylor Marks, a graduate of Whitewater High School, plans to major in Biology/ PreMed at Columbus State.
Amy Melton, a graduate of Whitewater High School, plans to major in Music Education at Columbus State.
CSU’s honors scholarships, worth up to $5,000 a year, are awarded to select students recruited for the university’s highly regarded Honors Program. In addition, honors scholars are provided $3,200 to study abroad at CSU’s Spencer House in Oxford, England or in over 30 countries around the world. Admission to the program is competitive, with entering freshmen required to achieve a cumulative minimum GPA of 3.5 in academic courses and score 1200 or higher on the SAT or at least 27 on the ACT. Students who win admission to the Honors Program may also apply for other generous grants to fund study abroad trips and research.
• Gardner-Webb University is pleased to announce that the following students made the Dean’s List for the Spring 2013 semester. The Dean’s List is the semester’s highest academic honor, recognizing only those students who maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 3.7 or better.

• Lindsay Johnson, the salutatorian of Starr’s Mill class of 2005, was recently awarded the Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Alabama-Birmingham College of Optometry. She is a 2009 graduate of the University of Georgia. Lindsay is the daughter of Dr. David Johnson and Deborah Johnson of Peachtree City.
