Students at Braelinn Elementary in Peachtree City jumped at the chance to fight heart disease and stroke, our nation’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers. In February at Braelinn Elementary the first, second and third graders held their second annual Jump Rope For Heart event.
Students jumped rope to raise funds for the American Heart Association, which funds cardiovascular disease research and public and professional education programs.
Jump Rope For Heart is co-sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance and celebrates its 31st anniversary this year.
The average heart beats 100,000 times each day. One of the best ways to take care of your heart is to make exercise a regular part of your everyday life.
Jump Rope For Heart teaches students how exercise benefits the heart and shows students that volunteering can be fun and beneficial to the whole community. They learn how they can make a difference by providing important community service and having a great time at this fun-filled event.
The teachers and students raised over $2,000 to fund potentially lifesaving research and educational programs. Elaine Johnson, second grade teacher, was chairperson for this event.
Johnson is a survivor of cardio-vascular disease and underwent open heart surgery to correct mitral valve prolapse several years ago. She is so proud of what the Braelinn community has accomplished.
Braelinn Elementary School is a 2009 Silver Award School for Statewide Accountability System from the Department of Education. The school is located in Peachtree City, Georgia.
