The increasing number of movie and television productions has led to the need for a set of guidelines for production companies wanting to use county property for filming and related activities. To that end, the Coweta County Commission approved the new guidelines at the Feb. 5 meeting.
Coweta County Convention and Visitors Bureau Director of Event Services Tray Baggarly in a recent letter said research on how other counties handle film projects led to the Film/Video Production Guidelines and the Film Location Agreement.
The idea, said Baggarly, is for the county Event Services Dept. to coordinate with outside entities wanting to film in Coweta County. Commissioners said Baggarly will oversee the process though some requests, such as road closures, will still come before the commission.
The guidelines took effect immediately and will include a fee structure. A sampling of the fee structure includes a charge of $1,500, for a 10-hour day, for use of the historic courthouse in Newnan, $1,000 per day for other county buildings, $500 to film on the exterior grounds of a county building and $100 per day on county roadways or right-of-way.
