The long-awaited fire station on Fayetteville’s west side moved a step closer to reality on Aug. 16.

The City Council hired Hogan Construction Group to perform design services required for the design and construction of the new station No. 93 on Veterans Parkway at a cost of $103,282.

The new station will be funded by impact fees and SPLOST (special purpose local option sales tax) revenues.

Though plans are in the initial stages, Chief Alan Jones said the new station situated near the intersection of Veterans Parkway and Hood Road could open in 2019.

The vote to approve the design services work was unanimous.
