It was supposed to be a gathering to say good-bye to a friend, but when Peachtree City Police received a call about a burglary in progress the gathering ended with charges of minors in possession of alcohol.

Peachtree City Police spokesperson Rosanna Dove said the incident occurred on Aug. 3 when officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress on Laddington Lane. Taking the necessary precautions, officers positioned themselves around the house.

An officer approaching the rear of the house saw three people emerging and questioned them as to why they were there, reports said. All three subjects advised that they were at the residence to say goodbye to a friend who was moving out of state, according to reports.

Upon entering the residence and seeing that the house had no furniture, officers spoke with a 16-year-old female juvenile who had resided at the residence. She explained to officers that her family was moving to Texas the following day and that her family was staying in a nearby hotel.

Her mother was subsequently contacted and confirmed that the family was moving, adding that no one had authority to be in the residence.

Officers found several containers of alcoholic beverages in plain view of the teenagers and the female resident’s mother found a glass pipe and rolling papers in the daughter’s purse, reports said.

Charged with a minor in possession of alcohol, but not taken into custody, were two 16-year-old female juveniles, 18-year-old Khalid Ali Murtaza, Maria S. Ancheta, 17, Devon Graves, 18, Sergio D. Saleh, 17, Brandon Graves, 18, Sarah King, 17, Chase Cannon, 17 and 17-year-old Nathan Bernth.
