Yoko K. Ingebrigtsen, 85, died peacefully in her daughter’s home on Monday, June 25 with her daughter present.

Yoko was suffering from colon cancer. She had a home in Gladstone, Michigan but had stayed part of the year with her daughter Pamela Gould and son-in-law Gerald in Peachtree City. She had done this for 25 years with the last several years staying in Georgia fulltime.

Yoko was born in Tokyo, Japan to Kanaiki and Kan Kouda. She had two brothers, Kicheru and Mamoro and three sisters, Katsuko, Koko and Setsuko. Only her sisters Katsuko and Koko survive. She came to the United States in May 1955 with her daughter Pamela to finally live with her husband, Ingolf in Gladstone. They married after the war but she was not allowed entry to the United States at that time. Ingolf died in 1983.

Yoko was a vibrant person. She was an excellent cook and loved to have people over for dinner. It was a thrill to be served courses of Japanese food and then have some lemon meringue pie. Yoko was also a seamstress and designer of clothes. She loved to garden, swim at the YMCA and enjoyed her many friends. She never met a stranger.

Yoko was a member of First Lutheran Church in Gladstone, Michigan but attended Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church while in Georgia. She was active in the Holy Folder ministry.

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela and son-in-law Gerald; a grandson Paul (Melissa) Barth; 3 step-grandchildren Karen (Jack) Dean, Jay (Arlene) Gould and Terry (Dorothy) Gould and 10 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church at 4 p.m. A viewing will be prior to the service from 3 to 4 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, 101 Peachtree Parkway, Peachtree City, Ga 30269. 770-487-8717.
