America says goodbye to another hero this Memorial Day
Lt. Col. James Lawrence “Larry” Taylor, USAF Ret., died peacefully in his sleep after a short but fierce battle with cancer. At peace with the knowledge that his earthly family was secure and ready to face life without him, he rejoined his heavenly family above.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Noreen; their two children, Michael and Melissa; their spouses, Tina and Chad; his grandchildren, Kaitlin, Oliver, Eliott, Taylor and Conner; and a great granddaughter, Kallie; and their two dogs, Max and Bella.
Larry was the son of Ralph and Sara Taylor of Columbus, GA and the younger brother of Sara Ellen Taylor. After graduating Georgia Tech, he joined the Air Force in 1962 as a commissioned officer. During an assignment to Tucson, AZ he met and eventually married his devoted wife, Noreen Vern (Moll) Taylor. After two tours in Vietnam he became an instructor, served two tours at the Pentagon and eventually retired as a member of the Air Force Liaison to the FAA Southern Region.
He then began a 30-year career as an insurance professional, most recently at the Jackson Insurance Agency. His leadership with a servant’s heart helped hundreds of people to better their financial lives over his second career.
When not working, he enjoyed travelling vacations with Noreen and his college/AF best friend Jim (RIP Tilby) and Gayel Tillman.
At ease Colonel; rest well. Fly west.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
