Richard was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1932. This incredible and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on March 22, 2024 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital with family at his bedside.
Richard was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, hiking and deep-sea fishing in his own boat around New England. He served in both the US Marine Reserves and Navy. He attended Boston University and won an award from MIT.
He married his high school sweetheart and wife of 67 years, Barbara. He later became a Delta Airline employee in Atlanta and moved his family to Peachtree City in 1971.
In 1973, he helped form and became the commissioner of Peachtree City’s first swim team. During retirement, he and Barbara traveled the world. They retired in New Hampshire, building their own “golden pond.”
Tired of the long winters, they built a home and moved to Sea Crest, Florida. He was known to all as a giving and selfless man, those efforts were evident in his volunteer work as an instructor at Gulf Coast Community College and with the local VA clinic.
He is survived by his three children, Maureen Kuebler, Kevin McSherry, and Kathleen McElwee, and grandchildren, Ryan McSherry, Casey Kuebler, Kyle McSherry, Andrew McElwee, Paige McSherry, and Brian McElwee, and great grandchildren Alex, Emily, James, and Leah.
