Harmful algae keeps Lake Peachtree closed

Lake Peachtree remains closed due to the detection of a potentially harmful algae bloom in another section of the lake.

Algae blooms can produce toxins that can be harmful to humans and animals. Symptoms of exposure to harmful algae toxins can include nausea, vomiting, gastro-intestinal issues, skin irritation, and respiratory problems. In severe cases, exposure to harmful algae toxins can be fatal. 

The city of Peachtree City continues to urge all residents and visitors to avoid all contact with the water in Lake Peachtree until further notice. This includes swimming, boating, fishing, and wading. Pets should also be kept away from the water. 

City officials are closely monitoring the algae bloom levels in Lake Peachtree and will inform the public once it is safe for humans and pets to return to the water. Updates will be posted on the City’s website and social media pages.
