Carole Sue Barrett Gravitt, passed away, on March 3, 2012. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and dear friend who gracefully lost her seven year struggle with cancer.

The fourth child of Mrs. James Verlon Barrett and Mr. James Oliver Barrett, she was born and raised in Atlanta where her father owned the Barrett Grocery Store.

After graduating from Sylvan Hills High School in 1956, Carole worked as a typist and legal secretary until she wed her husband of 45 years, Charles A. Gravitt, Sr. After the wedding and honeymoon to Ringgold, Ga., Carole busied herself making their house into a home and raising her three children-who were the light of her life. As she like to tell her neighbors, “raising my children were the best years of my life.”

She is preceded in death by her husband Charles, her sister Charlotte, her brother James William (Buddy) and her granddaughter Shannon Lindsay Deiters.

She is survived by her sister Ann Frazier of Riverdale, her sister and brother-in-law Lynne and John Monk of Bonita Springs, Fla., her daughter and son-in-law Debra and Brian Deiters of Stockbridge, her son and daughter-in-law Andy and Angela Gravitt of Overland Park, Kan., her son Tim Gravitt of Atlanta, her grandchildren, Brian Deiters and wife Maria, Lyndsey Deiters, Sarah Gravitt, Kaitlyn Gravitt and Matthew Gravitt, her great-grandson Christain Deiters and numerous nieces and nephews.

A lifelong Baptist, Carole enjoyed worshipping at Morrow First Baptist, Jonesboro First Baptist, and Flat Creek Baptist Church.

An avid traveler, Carole has journeyed around the U.S. also including Hawaii, London, Paris, Rome, Canada and the Caribbean with her husband Charles always in tow. Although, one never knew what she might bring back from her trips she also had a momento, or two, for her loved ones upon her return.

A wonderful cook, she was known for her homemade peach cobbler, pecan pie, and German Chocolate cake. She has touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew her.
