Snake Your Groove Thing – Monday, October 3 – 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Fayette Senior Services (FSS) – Peachtree City location at The Gathering Place, 203 McIntosh Trail: Georgia is home to over 40 different kinds of snakes and despite their peculiar bodies and sometimes frightening behaviors, they are very important to the environment and even to people! Charlee Martin, Environmental Education Coordinator with the Southern Conservation Trust, teaches us how these amazing animals are not as bad as you thought and how to differentiate between the venomous and nonvenomous species! Slither on over and see a live snake that will be on site during the presentation. This program is FREE but pre-registration is required. Harvest Cooking – Thursday, October 6 – 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Fayette Senior Services (FSS) – Fayetteville location at The Life Enrichment Center, 4 Center Drive: Enjoy a savory, warm fall meal with these great ideas for seasonal soup and other recipes. Erin Guy and Rebecca Jacobs with Georgia Farm Bureau share delicious ways to make foods using fall vegetables and locally sourced ingredients. Take part in a small cooking demo including a favorite harvest soup that will have you making it all season long! This program is FREE but pre-registration is required. Birds of Georgia – Monday, October 10 – 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Fayette Senior Services (FSS) – Fayetteville location at The Life Enrichment Center, 4 Center Drive: Bird watching is a favorite among many nature enthusiasts.  Melissa Paduani with Georgia Audubon spreads our wings to identifying some of Georgia’s most common birds! Learn to recognize some of the most common local species by their field marks and unique songs. Explore bird topography and learn how to use free bird ID applications for when you’re out and about. Aging Backwards – Tuesday, October 11 – 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Fayette Senior Services (FSS) – Peachtree City location at The Gathering Place, 203 McIntosh Trail: Turn back the clock as fitness coach Quentin Pullen gives us an overview of aging backwards. Is age truly just a number? Discover how our fitness age relates to our biological age and how several lifestyle and exercise factors can affect these. Focus on how physical activity, even if just a little, can actually slow down the aging process. Talk the Talk, Walk the Walk – Thursday, October 13 – 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Fayette Senior Services (FSS) – Peachtree City location at The Gathering Place, 203 McIntosh Trail: Lace up those walking shoes and come on over for a beautiful morning stroll with a healthcare expert. Join Kim Hershey, Ace certified Personal Trainer and Fitness 54 Personal Training Manager, as she walks and talks while discussing some popular senior health and fitness topics and answers questions you may have. There is no better way to start getting in shape than getting your steps in while learning how to improve your fitness routine! Wear comfortable shoes and take advantage of the cart path trails surrounding our Peachtree City location. The walk will be light and the pace will be set to fit everyone’s needs. Lunch & Learn: Good Bones– Tuesday, October 18 – 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fayette Senior Services (FSS) – Fayetteville location at The Life Enrichment Center, 4 Center Drive: Hips, knees, and joints, oh my! Orthopedics can be a daunting thing, but can create relief when dealing with pain in many areas of our bodies. Join orthopedist Dr. Charles Fryberger with Piedmont Orthopedics | OrthoAtlanta along with Piedmont Fayette orthopedic navigator and Physical Therapist Nicole Dinwiddie, as they discuss some of the most common orthopedic issues with the senior population. From joint replacement, knees and hip replacements, and more learn what to expect. In addition, discuss the importance of both prehab and rehab for pre and post operation and how they can play a major role in success and recovery from injuries and surgery. This program is part of the 2022 FSS and Piedmont Fayette Hospital Wellness Series. This program is $10 and includes lunch. It’s time to believe in a little magic as magician Dennis Aloia presents an exciting, interactive show filled with awe-inspiring magic and a little bit of comedy thrown in! Enjoy an afternoon of jaw-dropping fun and belly full of laughter at this fun show, you won’t be disappointed. You truly have to see it to believe it. Dementia Conversations – Tuesday, October 25 – 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Fayette Senior Services (FSS) – Peachtree City location at The Gathering Place, 203 McIntosh Trail: Communication is more than just talking and listening, it is also about sending and receiving messages through attitude, tone of voice, facial expressions and body language. As people with dementia progress and the ability to use words is lost, families need new ways to connect. Join the Alzheimer’s Association as they share strategies for having difficult, but important, conversations about changes that may be related to memory, thinking, and behavior of dementia. This program is FREE to attend but payment will be made to truck directly for lunch. Pre-registration is encouraged. Don’t let a little ghost story scare you…well, maybe a little! If you add a touch of real life experience to it, it could be quite frightening. Ed Laughlin with Ghosts of Georgia Paranormal Investigations bring us a collection of ghost stories that are the perfect fit for the season! From some exaggerated stories to add a little more spook intertwined with some real life encounters and interviews they’ve had, you’ll be entertained and maybe shaking in fear by the end! Just Shred It: Shredding Services – Friday, October 28 – 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Fayette Senior Services (FSS) – Fayetteville location at The Life Enrichment Center, 4 Center Drive: Fayette Senior Services will have a shredding truck from A1 Shredding on site to take care of your shredding needs. Bring in your papers needing to be shred and have taken care of at a convenient and familiar site. FSS will not be handling any of your papers; each member is responsible for taking their shredding out to the trucks directly.
