Mayor praises PTC Fire Department

The annual Fire Department installation dinner was held on Saturday. It was graciously sponsored by the Peachtree City Rotary Club, to whom I extend my thanks and appreciation. My wife and I were honored to attend.

While I will cover their accomplishments, along with the Police Department’s, in the State of the City address to the Rotary in March, it is no wonder why they are honored repeatedly on a nationwide and state basis.

While small in number compared to other cities our size, their dedication and drive enables them to surpass most others. There is always emphasis and credit to their team ethic and members. Volunteer, part-time or career, the firefighters, EMTs and paramedics excel in all they do. Kudos to all.

Yes, they have their critics saying they are too expensive, but that is just not true. Others say they are too many. Didn’t I just mention how small they were compared to other cities?

I do not believe those whose lives, limbs, pets, possessions and homes that they have saved would agree they are not worth every penny. Most assuredly I do not.

All who stand in harm’s way deserve our backing and support. They have ours.

Don Haddix, mayor
