With a little faith, Jawanza Blue’s art career will take off. Blue, a sophomore at Sandy Creek, has been awarded a Gold Key for his digital artwork submission, titled “Having Faith,” to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

Blue’s piece will be featured in an exhibition at the Savannah College of Art & Design from February 26 through March 5, and his work advances to the national level of adjudication in New York City.

His work was recognized by an Alliance for Young Artists & Writers panel of creative professionals as one of the most outstanding works submitted. Since 1923, the awards have recognized some of America’s most celebrated artists and writers while they were teenagers, including Tschabalala Self, Stephen King, Kay WalkingStick, Charles White, Joyce Carol Oates, and Andy Warhol.

Blue’s art teacher at Sandy Creek High is Stephanie Stein.
