Coweta County is excited to announce the following internal promotions effective Monday,
August 17 in advance of upcoming retirements of long tenured leaders.
Shannon Ashmore
Shannon Ashmore has been promoted to Assistant Director of Finance, succeeding current
Assistant Director of Finance Amy Henson who will retire after 30 years of dedicated service.
Shannon joined Coweta County in November of 2019 as the Treasury Analyst, where she managed the County’s bank accounts and cash flow, maintained a schedule of investments and tracked interest earned, oversaw credit cards and their users and handled unclaimed funds. In August 2024, she was promoted to Accounting Manager and began to supervise accounts payable and the accounting associate, oversaw the County’s audit report and collaborated with auditors to ensure accurate reporting and compliance. In her new role, she will work directly with the Finance Director on departmental and personnel matters, while continuing to oversee the audit.
“I am excited to bring a fresh perspective to the department,” Shannon shared. “I look forward to making a positive impact on our team and the County overall. I take great pride in working for the community where I grew up.”
Born and raised in Coweta County, Shannon is a graduate of Northgate High School and has always been passionate about math and science. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Mercer University, majoring in accounting and minoring in business management. She also holds a Master of Business Administration from Mercer University.
After college, Shannon worked for TBG Residential prior to spending some time in Pensacola, Florida where her husband was stationed with the Coast Guard. While there she worked in finance and accounting for Shrimp Basket LLC.
Shannon resides just outside of Coweta County with her husband and their six-year-old daughter. She enjoys attending neighborhood Barre classes, visiting the local Farmer’s Market and spending time with family and friends.
Aron Sutton
Aron Sutton has been approved by the Board of Assessors as the new Deputy Chief Appraiser, succeeding current Deputy Chief Appraiser Angie Pough who is expected to retire at the end of 2026 after 35 years of service.
Aron joined Coweta County in March of 2022 as a Tax Appraiser II and was promoted to Senior Property Appraiser in December of 2024. During his tenure, he has focused on residential properties, particularly assessing property values in the City of Newnan. Aron and the other appraisers evaluate the exterior of residential and commercial properties in Coweta County by measuring the outsides, taking photos and assessing the overall physical structure of each home. The team also reviews neighborhoods to compare nearby homes but concentrates solely on the exterior structure. He encourages property owners to file a real property return between January 1 and April 1 every year to notify the office of any changes such as adding or removing anything from the property. This helps keep records accurate and up to date. He also
recommends the Q Public site as a valuable resource for reviewing property records for accuracy.
In his new role, Aron will work alongside the Chief Appraiser on departmental and personnel matters, assist with administrative duties such as the budget, and continue to support appraisal activities.
“I always wanted to work for Coweta County,” Aron shared. “I love my job, serving the community I grew up in and being out and about in the public, and look forward to making
more of an impact in the department.”
Before joining the County, Aron served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve for six years in an infantry unit. He went on to work at KIA in West Point on the production line, served as a team leader, and assisted in the paint control room. He also worked for his family’s business, the former Shamrock Kitchen in Tyrone, which closed during COVID. Since childhood, he helped at the restaurant, handling tasks from serving and cooking to managing staff.
Aron is currently studying Information Technology at Arizona State University and hopes to bring more technology and digital opportunities to his role. He is also a graduate of East Coweta High School.
Aron currently resides in Coweta County with his wife of nine years and their four children, whose ages range from four months to eight years. He enjoys spending time outdoors and is an avid soccer fan.
“We are thrilled to have Shannon and Aron stepping into these new leadership positions within Coweta County,” said Administrator Michael Fouts. “We look forward to their ongoing success as they guide our employees in serving the community. Additionally, we are deeply grateful for the many years of dedicated service and positive impact Amy and Angie have provided to Coweta. We wish them all the best in their next chapter.”
