Every December, a tradition of quiet reverence unfolds across the nation. It is called Wreaths Across America, and it is far more than a ceremony—it is a heartfelt, living expression of gratitude for the men and women who have served our country.
This powerful movement began humbly in 1992, when Maine wreath-maker Morrill Worcester found himself with a surplus of holiday wreaths. Rather than let them go to waste, he donated them to Arlington National Cemetery. That simple act of generosity sparked a national tradition that has since grown into an annual mission to:
- Remember the fallen.
- Honor those who serve.
- Teach the next generation the value of freedom.
Today, Wreaths Across America mobilizes volunteers in all 50 states and beyond, creating a moving, synchronized tribute that reminds us all of the true cost of liberty.
Right here in Fayette County, the tradition will continue thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Peachtree City Falcon Field Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol. This year, they are once again bringing this meaningful observance to the Fayetteville City Cemetery alongside the American Legion 105.
The community is invited to gather for an event that is both solemn and deeply inspiring. The day will begin with the laying of individual remembrance wreaths on the graves of Fayette County’s servicemen and women, followed by a brief dedication ceremony.
By showing up—to lay a wreath, to stand in silent tribute, or simply to reflect—we affirm the selfless service of those who wore our nation’s uniform and demonstrate to younger generations the profound importance of civic and patriotic engagement. It is a moment to pause, to look at the name etched in stone, and ensure that their sacrifice is never forgotten.
