McIntosh High alum Kylie Dickinson is taking the stage in the iconic musical Fiddler on the Roof at the Alliance Theater.
Dickinson, a Class of 2019 graduate, plays the role of The Fiddler. The show runs through October 12.
Fayette County Public Schools helped launch her into a career in the fine arts. Dickinson played in the orchestra during middle and high school and took art and drama her senior year of high school. She also recently served as the orchestra director at Whitewater High.
“I very much valued the opportunity to take multiple fine arts programs in one semester. Without that space, I wouldn’t have had the necessary training in multiple facets of the arts,” said Dickinson. “I also loved having a live pit orchestra for every musical. That was such integral experience in a really cool niche field that isn’t often considered in a regular orchestral curriculum.”
She has found her future on stage as a muso-actress, blending her greatest talents.
“I’d always loved the collaborative aspect of music and eventually fell in love with teaching, but it wasn’t until I saw a regional production of ‘Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812’ that I was called to be on stage as a muso-actress,” said Dickinson. “Actor-musicianship is a new genre emerging in the Broadway scene in which instrumentalists play, dance, act, and sing all at the same time. It felt like all of my passions were being fully utilized for the first time.”
