Celebrity chef and philanthropist, Robert Irvine is partnering with Zac Brown’s Camp Southern Ground for a special day of food, fitness, and community focused on honoring veterans and their families. The event, called the “Ruck and BBQ Bash”, will take place Saturday, June 28, at Camp Southern Ground in Fayetteville.

Known for his work on Food Network programs such as Worst Cooks in America, Restaurant: Impossible, and Dinner: Impossible, Irvine also founded The Robert Irvine Foundation, which supports the physical and mental health of veterans, service members, and their families. Camp Southern Ground shares this mission, working year-round to help veterans transition into civilian life post-service and overcome the effects of PTSD or combat-related stress.

The “Ruck and BBQ Bash” will kick off with “The Ruck”, a family-friendly fitness challenge, roughly 5k in length, where participants will carry weighted rucksacks through a course. After completing the course, veterans and their families will enjoy live music, games, and a barbecue meal provided by Robert Irvine and his foundation.

Robert Irvine expressed that the healing of these heros comes from bringing people together, getting them active, and pulling them out of the isolation they may find themselves in after serving.

“We feed them well, we put them with people, and we keep their mind active,” said Irvine. “I would like them to know that wherever they go, wherever they live, whatever they do in the next part of their journey, they are never alone.”

The event aims to build lasting connections among veterans, service members, and their families through shared experience and community support. Both the Robert Irvine Foundation and Camp Southern Ground are dedicated to creating environments where veterans can thrive.

In the coming months, Irvine plans to continue his mission by focusing on improved food and dining facilities within the military. Working closely with senior military leaders, he hopes to redesign these spaces and the food they provide to create greater interaction and community amongst service members.

“There’s no reason that anybody out there cannot help a veteran service organization,” said Irvine. “Whether you have money or don’t, you have time.” For more information about the “Ruck and BBQ Bash” event, visit the event page on Camp Southern Ground’s website.
