Fayette County, GA, June 17, 2025 – Longtime Fayette County resident Morris Kelly was officially sworn in today by Probate Judge Angela Landgaard to serve on the Fayette County Board of Elections and Voter Registration. The ceremony took place on a fitting occasion—Election Day—highlighting the significance of his new role in helping to uphold the integrity of the local electoral process.

Mr. Kelly was appointed by the Fayette County Board of Commissioners during their regular meeting last Thursday. With 39 years of residency in Fayette County, Mr. Kelly brings decades of public service and community engagement to the Board. He retired from the Clayton County Water Authority in 2007 and has served on the Credit Union Board since 2005.

“His unique perspective—having served both under a board and on a board—gives him a clear understanding of the role of the Director and the operational responsibilities of the office,” said Brieanna Garrett, Director of Fayette County Elections & Voter Registration. “In addition, his extensive experience in customer service equips him to interact effectively with the public, particularly during times of heightened scrutiny.”

Mr. Kelly expressed a deep sense of calling and responsibility in taking on the position.

“It’s a calling. I’ve been praying since I’ve gone through this process,” he shared. “It is my desire that we come together as a board and build procedures that support Brieanna and her staff, and that ensure that the elections in Fayette County are fair and not biased. This is my goal.”

Garrett emphasized the value Mr. Kelly brings to the Board, citing his professionalism, impartiality, and strong commitment to public service.
